About Kate
Based in Hampshire on the South Coast of the UK, Kate works as a freelance designer, artist and an educator.

Background
Kate left art college in the early 90’s and worked in the London fashion industry as a textile print designer for various merchants and retail companies before becoming freelance. Clients included M&S, Top Shop, Boden and John Lewis.
Port and Lemon
In 2012, along with a friend, she set up the design company Port and Lemon, designing ranges of nautically inspired products for companies all round the Uk including The Mary Rose Museum and the RNLI. The company now runs independently but still sells her designs including the iconic “Salty Old Sea Dog”.
Design Style
Her style has developed over the years and reflects her textile printing background conveying a retro stylised feel and referencing her large collection of decorative ephemera. Colour has also been front and centre to her work and an obsession with bright bold hues and quirky combinations is a constant.
Influences
Being well travelled there is always an influence of other cultures in her work, both from art as well as interiors, ceramics and music.
Flowers, foliage, birds and insects also feature often in her work, along with food, in many different forms from vegetables to shellfish, cakes to kimchi.
Art Tutorials
As Kate's gathered experience and skills, she’s found it increasingly important to share them. Becoming part of the “Skillshare “family was a turning point and launched her into the world of art education. Learning to film, edit and produce art tutorials has been a challenge but introduced a whole new world of inspiration and self-worth.
